Colorado hemp-oil producer hires supplement veteran as new operations VP

An organic hemp-oil manufacturer in Colorado has appointed a dietary-supplement industry veteran to oversee inventory, extraction and manufacturing.

Asa Waldstein will take on the role of senior vice president of operations for Functional Remedies, the company said Tuesday in a statement.

Waldstein previously served as VP of operations and regulatory affairs at Advanced Extraction, and as chief operating officer at Quicksilver Scientific, where he helped oversee a product partnership with Tony Robbins. He is head of the cannabis committee for the American Herbal Products Association.

“Asa is a terrific addition to our already strong executive team,” Functional Remedies CEO Andrew Campbell said in a statement. “He brings a wealth of industry knowledge from the dietary supplements space, along with structural experience, that will help take Functional Remedies to the next level.”

Walstein has helped oversee three Good Manufacturing Practice audits by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, during which FDA investigators observed no conditions that potentially violated the Food Drug and Cosmetic (FD&C) Act or related laws.

“I’ve seen a lot of similarities between what was going on in the early 2000s with supplements and what’s happening now in hemp with regulations,” Waldstein said in a statement.
