Ex-US surgeon general joins CBD company’s advisory board

A former U.S. surgeon general is joining the advisory board of a California CBD company.

Dr. Richard Carmona, who served as surgeon general from 2002 to 2008, will advise Kadenwood, a privately held company that makes topical CBD products in Newport Beach, California.

The appointment gives Kadenwood a government insider to “shift the perception of CBD,” company CEO Erick Dickens said in a statement.

Terms of the appointment were not disclosed.

Kadenwood plans to start selling topical CBD products this summer.

Carmona was appointed by former President George W. Bush and oversaw a landmark 2006 report on secondhand smoke.

After leaving office, Carmona ran unsuccessfully in 2012 for U.S. Senate as a Democrat in Arizona, his home state.
