Florida company faces liability lawsuit over possible CBD vape illness

(This story has been updated with a company response.)

South Florida manufacturer JustCBD is being sued by a woman in the U.S. Virgin Islands who says she was sickened by one of its vape products.

The woman alleges that CBD vape oil made by the Hollywood, Florida, company caused her pneumonia-like symptoms in August.

She was ultimately transferred to a Miami hospital, where her legs were amputated because of organ failure and oxygen deprivation, Courthouse News Service reported.

JustCBD, part of a larger company JustBrands, has not responded to the product-liability lawsuit in court, but company spokeswoman Holly Baird told Hemp Industry Daily the company was “saddened” by the woman’s illness but not responsible.

She added that JustCBD does not sell products in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Florida company is also fighting unrelated legal claims that its labels misstate CBD content.

JustCBD also makes topicals, tinctures and capsules containing CBD, which it calls “Mother Nature’s secret miracle.”
